Morton Feldman USA [1926-1987]

Short description: Pioneer of indeterminate music. Notational innovations that he developed to create his characteristic sound: rhythms that seem to be free and floating; pitch shadings that seem softly unfocused; a generally quiet and slowly evolving music; recurring asymmetric patterns. His later works, after 1977, also begin to explore extremes of duration. Distributed limited number of sounds in long time intervals. Teachers: Wolpe, Varese. Music flows above non-regular rhythms. Repetitive and even minimalism sometimes.

Being one of the large 'ALL' islands, this one Still does not seem to be the most difficult, because modern composer differences sound more pronounced than for example Romantic. [All Modern]

Scelsi sounds symphonic, single note is played by multiple instruments, varying in dynamics.

Feldman sounds repetitive, sparce, long dissonant chords, chamber. Feldman piano pieces sound even more sparce with short random notes.

Wolpe sounds atonal, closer to Schoenberg. Wolpe piano piece sounds percussive and energetic.
