Hypatia /ˌhaɪˈpeɪʃə, -ʃi.ə/ hy-PAY-shə, -shee-ə, often called Hypatia of Alexandria, was a Greek mathematician, astronomer, and philosopher in Egypt, then a part of the Byzantine Empire.
