Donald Justice was born in Miami, Florida on August 12, 1925. He earned degrees from the University of Miami (B. A. 1945), the University of North Carolina (M.A. 1947), and the University of Iowa (Ph.D. 1954). He held teaching positions at the University of Florida, the University of Miami, the University of Iowa, where he taught for many years at the Iowa Writers` Workshop, the nation`s first graduate program in creative writing, Syracuse University, the University of California at Irvine, Princeton University and the University of Virginia. He retired from teaching in 1992. Donald published thirteen collections of his poetry. He won the Lamont Poetry Prize given
