Rualark 2015-05-16 08:27:07 | Being one of the large 'ALL' islands, this one Still does not seem to be the most difficult, because modern composer differences sound more pronounced than for example Romantic. [All Modern] | Rualark 2015-03-11 09:28:37 | A simple island.
Poulenc dounds diatonic. Webern sounds atonal.
Beware of the early Webern pieces, which sound diatonic and romantic: Two Early Pieces for Cello and Piano, Im Sommerwind, Langsamer Satz, Passacaglia, Rondo. Also, some of his pieces can sound significantly more diatonic in some places (e.g. Satz op. 5). (Poulenc, Webern) | Rualark 2015-02-23 12:09:59 | Please see my comments for islands with pairs of these three composers.
Use language to guess vocal. (Messiaen, Schoenberg, Webern) | Rualark 2015-02-21 17:35:18 | Webern sounds more dissonant and chaotic, sparce, with dynamic cresc-dim waves of several seconds, divided with seconds of silence.
Messiaen sounds rhythmic, repetitive, less dissonant, atmospheric, oriental, tonal percussion.
You can use language to distinguish vocal pieces. (Messiaen, Webern) | Rualark 2015-02-20 22:58:54 | Only Schoenberg has string quartet+vocal, sextet (Verklarte Nacht), piano concerto in this game. Pierrot Lunaire has characteristic vocal bends. Moses und Aron, Survivor from Warsaw include many german declamations.
Only Webern has piano songs, piano with strings, choir cantatas in this game. Webern Two Early Pieces for Cello and Piano, Im Sommerwind, Langsamer Satz, Passacaglia, Rondo, which sound very romantic.
Schoenberg is 12-tone except for Guerrlieder Vorspiel in this game. Guerrlieder has a different late-romantic Wagner sound.
Watch out for Webern Two Early Pieces for Cello and Piano, Im Sommerwind, Langsamer Satz, Passacaglia, which sound very romantic. (Schoenberg, Webern) | Rualark 2015-02-19 21:09:05 | Both composers were students of Schoenberg and use 12-tone technique.
Only Webern has piano songs, piano with strings, choir cantatas in this game. Webern melodies are generally more leaping and less romantic. Watch out for Webern Two Early Pieces for Cello and Piano, Im Sommerwind, Langsamer Satz, Passacaglia, which sound very romantic.
Only Berg has clarinet+piano, violin concerto, strings orchestra, opera (Lulu, Wozzek) in this game. Berg combines Mahler romanticism with 12-tone technique. Berg opera resembles both post-romantic and Schoenberg Pierrot Lunaire. (Berg, Webern) | Rualark 2015-02-19 08:45:35 | This is an easy island, Shostakovich being much more consonant and Webern being 12-tone and chaotic. Watch out for Webern Two Early Pieces for Cello and Piano, Im Sommerwind, Langsamer Satz, Passacaglia, which sound very romantic.
This is interesting, that Shostakovich obviously has some dissonances and this often helps to distinguish him from romantic and post-romantic composers. But on this island he sounds much more consonant.
You can use language to distinguish vocal pieces safely. (Shostakovich, Webern) |
