Elgar - cello concerto, march, energetic, expressive, percussive, anti-folk. RV Williams - english folk, oriental, atmospheric. Elgar sounds more complex and polyphonic on this island. You can hear linear oriental solo strings in some RV Williams pieces. Elgar pieces sometimes can sound dancing, like for example Serenade and in some places of Enigma variations. Although generally Elgar did not like folk music, sometimes his melody can sound very song-like, e.g. Pomp and Circumstance March, but in this piece you will hear strick rhythm.
On this island atmospheric pieces will statistically more often belong to RV Williams, but do not forget about Elgar Elegy for strings. RV Williams Wasps start sounds like real wasps flying! Wasps sounds rhythmic, but not that heavy and strict like Elgar. (Elgar, RV Williams) |
